The Role

In this pivotal Principal Policy Officer position, you will operate at the intersection of legislative strategy and operational delivery. This role is not just about policy maintenance. it is about policy architecture. You will lead the development of robust frameworks, operating procedures, and high-level briefings that ensure objectives are met with precision and consistency.

As a senior member of the policy team, you will act as a bridge between complex legislative requirements and practical, real-world application. You will lead high-priority projects, navigate sensitive stakeholder landscapes, and provide the expert analysis necessary to support executive decision-making.

The Opportunity

  • Lead Strategic Development: Take ownership of the end-to-end policy life cycle, from deep-dive research and legislative analysis to the creation of final briefing materials.
  • Influence Outcomes: Utilise high-level negotiation skills to align diverse stakeholder interests and secure buy-in on critical policy and practice issues.
  • Uphold Excellence: Drive the quality and consistency of branch outputs by developing high-standard resources and mentor ship frameworks.
  • Manage Complexity: Oversee complex projects from inception to completion, proactively managing risks and expectations in a fast-paced environment.

Key Skills and Attributes

  • Evidence-Based Analysis: Demonstrated ability to research and critically analyse policy issues to identify legislative solutions that are evidence-based and fit for purpose.
  • Project Leadership: Extensive experience managing and coordinating projects to completion, including establishing priorities, meeting deadlines, and obtaining executive approval.
  • Legislative Application: High-level experience in applying key concepts and principles of legislation when developing robust policy responses.
  • Strategic Communication: Proven ability to deliver quality written products (including policies and procedures) and provide professional advice to diverse audiences.
Stakeholder Engagement: Sophisticated negotiation skills with the ability to manage expectations and build consensus across internal and external networks.
